When it comes to the govt agency or anyone else putting a curb on "Freedom of Speech", the media jumps high and start shouting. But what when this very media indulge in the same.
Yes readers, this is what happened in one of the articles posted by Hindustan Times. Comments posted by readers got deleted by the media house. Not just that, they even indulged into editing out the comments. Any comment that was posted telling the other side of the story, even when plain facts were given, the media house deleted the same. This blog will show you all the proof of high handed behavior by HT web-staff.
Let us first show you all the comment that started the whole thing. One reader was posting comments as Student IITKGP which were slanderous to the profs of the institute. Then he posted a comment in favour of three profs. But the comment was first posted with the name "Student IITKGP". Later the same person posted another comment now posing as a teacher "Akghosh" but forgot to change the mail ID. Thus resulting in this previous comment of his also changing back to Akghosh.
Posting three screen shots taken at different times of the same post to show how they internally changed the name. Name changing cannot be done by users.

You all can see Traveller posted there after this was pointed out by another User. And here started the comment deletion process by HT. User "Abhik" posted in details about the same but HT immediately deleted his post. Another user "Nikunj" also posted there asking readers to take screen shots of the comments as they are getting deleted. Later many others did the same. But all those were deleted by HT. We are posting few such comments here for you all to see if they fall under the category which needs deletion.
Now to show you all the serious comments that HT people deleted. These comments actually were telling the other side of the story. It showed how the article originally posted by HT is totally false and that the prof involved in getting the article out in the media is himself showing guilt. Deletion of these few comments actually prove shifty stand by HT.
Any intelligent reader going through the comments would realise that if HT was really clean and true, they would not indulge in deleting these comments. But instead they decided to come with another article saying "Slanderous" comments got posted.
Are these really "Slanderous" or "Dangerous" for them!!!
Media which always believe in freedom of speech today showed that when its they who get targeted, when they are unable to provide the truth, they themselves don't believe in "Freedom of Speech". Is this the Indian Media that our forefathers working for media dream of!!! Sorry to say but Hindustan Times has shown a totally different picture of what "Freedom of Speech" means when it comes to media!!!!

Thanks for putting these up. The whole fiasco was too shocking for me. It was hard to believe that a site like HT can behave thus.
ReplyDeleteThe above comments have nothing slanderous. They were no way material which needed to be deleted. The very action of deletion proves HT's guilt. They were not ready to show the truth to the world.
But coming from a media site like HT, its really not good. Media who themselves believe in freedom of speech today worked to stop the same!
